04 Apr Spring Into Running: A Fresh Start for the Season
As the seasons change and warmer days return, many of us feel the urge to get outside, breathe in the fresh air, and move our bodies. Running is an excellent way to embrace the new season, improve your fitness, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Pointe-Claire or wherever you like to run. However, before you hit the pavement, it’s important to set yourself up for success and prevent injuries. Here’s how you can start your running season on the right foot—no pun intended!
1. Get Your Biomechanics Checked
Did you know that 70% of new runners experience some form of injury? Before lacing up your shoes, consider booking an appointment with a health professional. A biomechanical evaluation can help identify any potential issues, improve your running form, and ensure a smooth and injury-free start to your season. Addressing minor aches and imbalances now can go a long way toward a successful and enjoyable running journey.
2. Invest in Proper Footwear
Your old running shoes may have seen better days! Foot structure and gait vary greatly from person to person, and the right shoe can make all the difference in both comfort and injury prevention. Visiting a specialty running store for a professional shoe fitting can help you find the best pair for your unique foot type, keeping you supported and ready to hit the road or trails with confidence.
3. Start Slow & Build Gradually
Jumping into long-distance running too quickly is a recipe for injury. Instead, ease into the season by incorporating strength training, stretching, yoga, or even skipping rope to get your body primed for the demands of running. Gradually increase your mileage and listen to your body—progressing steadily will help you build endurance and avoid setbacks.
